Study Advice: Listening

Do you find listening and understanding difficult in English? You're not alone!

Here are some examples of what English learners say about speaking:

"I watch the news every night but I don't understand anything"

"I think too much about words I don't understand - then I miss the important information"

"I can't hear the individual words. They all link together too quickly"

"I can't understand my classmates when they speak"

Try to listen for the main idea, not individual words.
Listen and read the text at the same time if you can.
Go to public talks (like uni open days) and research vocab before you go.
Listen to your favourite song in English and find the lyrics online.
